Event Details

At Samasource we believe technology can change the lives of people living in poverty. And we're not the only ones.

Join us for pizza, beer and lightning talks from Patrice Martin at IDEO.org, Scott Silverman who is Coding for America, and others, including our own development team. Each will showcase technologies and designs for social impact.

After the short presentations, hang out in our office, enjoy the beer and meet with other people interested in changing the world.

Speaker Bios:

Patrice Martin (IDEO.org) co-leads IDEO’s social innovation domain, where she specializes in using design to improve the lives of people in low-income communities. She works with clients in both the public and private sectors to address large-scale social change through solutions. She has led projects and project teams in the fields of health care, financial services, hospitality, workplace, and education for clients such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mayo Clinic, Nike Foundation, Acumen Fund, American Refugee Committee, and Marriott International.

Scott Silverman is a fellow at Code for America, where he is creating an educational technology platform that will allow the open development of apps to enhance the way students, parents, teachers and administrators interact with education. His team is looking for ways to integrate Boston's many independent sources of data (e.g. student information, after school programs, library records, etc.) into a single interface, while simultaneously building a privacy framework to allow third-party developers to build apps on top of the data.

Samasource Engineering builds and supports the SamaHub, our proprietary work platform that distributes digital work to over 900 women, youth, and refugees in the poorest parts of the world. We also develop technologies that assist local entrepreneurs in running microwork centers, helping to grow a new pool of business talent across the developing world.
